Beautiful photos and essay Sydney. I had to giggle a little reading because I had one break off outside of my front door and bonk me on the head. Beware of these beauties!
That is hilarious, Pamela! I'll remember that just in case I'm getting a little too serious about all these meditative contemplations, nature might send a playful smack to remind me to also lighten up 🤣 (Honestly, this happens to me frequently, like I'm all concentrated in my camera and a bug flies up my nose.)
This is stunning Sydney! A powerful meditation, almost reads like a zen koan, an invitation to pause understanding and enter an intuitive, more liminal state. I will forever redefine the in between state between reason/form and awareness/formlessness as liminal and interstitial. Thank you for this!
“The space between an icicle and its droplet is meditation.” 🙏
Thank you so much, Kimberly! So glad to have shared this moment with you. What a perfect way to describe it - "an invitation to pause understanding and enter an intuitive, more liminal state."
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...not just the incredible images you caught, but the space you point to that is so important for our lives. Thank you Sydney. Magic.🙏🏼
Thank you, Heidi! Isn't that fun? I sort of realized it as I was writing it, looking for words to describe the way I feel when I'm watching and waiting for one drop follow another - so it was a fun discovery for me as well :)
Exactly! There's such a world of further contemplation there, looking around the world and pondering the unique qualities of all these different spaces in between. When I think of the Critters, I am suddenly imagining the space in-between toe beans 🤣
Sydney, is it just me or does everyone start to 'twinkle' as they contemplate these moments in the life of an icicle and the water that it is made of and of course it's surroundings all coming to life along with it? Totally enchanting! Thank you for drawing our attention to it.
This is mesmerizing, thank you for sharing. This feels like a written journey of what it means to be in the moment... true presence.
Thanks so much, Scot! Great point, icicles are excellent vessels for drawing you into one present moment 🙏🏼
Sydney, This is amazing work. I am going to file it as a reminder to request submission to the winter version of The Zest of the Lemon. D
Thank you so much, Dave, that is so encouraging! Winter holds a special place in my heart and I always enjoy writing about it :)
Your posts are what i call reading meditations. I'm always zapped into the now.
Thank you, Mohika! Nature is so good for that 🌱 And thank you for sharing :)
Fabulous, mesmerising descriptions and photographs, I feel calmed just reading about the icicles,
Thanks so much, Sarah, so honored to have brought a little peace!

A beautiful and mindful post, Sydney. I really like the meditation that exists between the ice and the drop.
Thank you, Heidi! Isn't that fun? I sort of realized it as I was writing it, looking for words to describe the way I feel when I'm watching and waiting for one drop follow another - so it was a fun discovery for me as well :)
It seems Zen, Sydney. I love the whole exploration of the space in-between.
