Sydney, this is wonderful. Though more grounded than their winged future selves, caterpillars are no less beautiful. You are right, the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly/moth is so well known (almost cliche) but when you connect with the details of a specific species as you have, and personally experience the joy and surprise of the transformation - then it is not common at all - it's absolutely exquisite at every stage. Love the detail in your words and photos.
Thank you so much, Phoebe! "but when you connect with the details...and personally experience the joy...then it is not common at all" - that's absolutely it in a nutshell! 💕 Would you mind if I share this sentiment? You're captured it so perfectly!
Your noticing and highlighting of Phoebe’s sentiment only serves to show the sensitivity to your surroundings that I so like and admire in you, Sydney!
I used to host a musicians open mic (for eight years in fact!) After a while, you can start to take the musicians for granted. One time I noticed that when I stood in the back of the room I would grow bored, but when I sat right in the front, the same songs were suddenly interesting and nuanced and totally enjoyable. it made the whole experience better for me! From then on, I made a point of sitting in the front.
You are sitting in the front seat of nature‘s auditorium, Sydney!
Thank you, Don! What a great illustration and excellent point. Best seat in the house, and we're all invited, we just have to keep remembering to accept the invitation 💕
Your posts always leave me smiling, Sydney. It's like each one is a little treasure, and I know I will learn something new about our world, or gain a new perspective, even before I read. Incredible photos, as always!
Oh my goodness…. Such an incredible photo with their antennae in such sharp focus!! And the tiny little green ovals on each segment of the caterpillar! The details! And the story itself. Exquisite. Thank you so much. Happy sigh…. Enjoy your paradise. 😃🤗
I love this, Sydney! Always in awe with the transformation from caterpillars to chrysalis to butterflies or moths. Your post reminded me of one of my projects called The Butterfly Diary. I might just resurrect it and share it in my newsletter. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you so much, Stella! I agree, it's such a truly amazing story to revisit again and again - the details always very and it never stops being miraculous 💕I look forward to seeing your project!
