Totally! We were the happy host to a careful Mama and her fawn this summer and fall in our apple orchard, and now everyone's in their fluffy winter coats looking like plushy versions of themselves. Cuteness abounds 🤣
Hanging laundry on a clothes line brings back childhood memories of my mother bringing in the sheets and then putting my face to them and inhaling the outside. It was especially memorable during winter when the sheets would come in stiff. The smell differed from that of summer. Both delightful. Thank you for the memory.
Thanks so much for sharing, Perry! You know, I can only detect the lovely smell from summer laundry - my winter laundry didn't smell like anything, and now I feel like I missed out! I'm going to try harder on the next load 🤣
While summer smell is easier to detect, winter's is more subtle. What I can recall is that the sheets smelled of clean and cold winter air, at least in my memory.
Those starry constellations on your sheets are indescribably beautiful Sydney... You make me wish for cold weather, not damp cold like we have here in this wild part of France but the sort of dry cold that means frozen patterns of nature forming on everything and anything stopping still long enough to be touched by its magic! And fluff flies!!! Never would I have said a fly to be cute before but those just are.... Fluff flies and frost have been added to my wish list! Thank you for this delightful essay. 💙
Thank you so much, Susie, so delighted to have you here to share this with! Nature is always stunning me with delightful things I never would have expected to be delighted by 🤣
I love that you remind me that life is lived in the simple moments of connectedness with other species. Sometimes I forget….. thank-you so much, Sydney 💕
Thank you so much, Tara, that is such a heart-warming compliment! We all need as many reminders as we can get, I think, and I am so happy that my own efforts to remember more often are paying forward 💕
Thank you so much, Julie! I agree - and even in an urban setting, just noticing more nature, nature, nature in all the little nooks and crannies is so beneficial, too!💕
What a delightful read and you reminded me I was once bitten on my feet by ants when hanging out laundry- thanks for this giggly moment 🤗 and for sharing your heart for nature 💛
That article broke me when I first read it and has haunted me ever since. I just posted it, my first post. I’m only a reader, although I enjoy commenting and re-stacking. I’m hopeful that this particular comment placed within another’s “territory” doesn’t offend anyone. Thank you for understanding.
Your links are always welcome here, Lola! I actually remember reading about this particular die-off with great sorrow, as well. We certainly share the same heart for nature, and so I'm sure I'll always be interested in pieces that catch your attention :)
Fantastic photos of the frost on your laundry! You really have an eye for finding beauty in the most mundane moments. It's a great reminder.
Thank you so much, Sarah! 💕
lovely! i have enjoyed the word ‘glordinary’ when witnessing such awe inspiring occasions that are too ordinary for most folks to notice.
That’s a very good word, thanks so much for sharing!
"pranked by deer" is a great phrase and a hilarious image! I totally get it.
Paying attention to the small things in nature is the quickest way I have found to reconnect to God
🤣I was really hoping there would be someone who related to being pranked by deer - they are such stinkers :) And I totally agree 💕
they really are! but they’re so adorable and fun too. i grew up in the woods so we had a lot of interactions

That makes sense. It makes me think of the way the air smells after an overnight snowfall - as though it's just been scrubbed absolutely clear :)

Beautiful collaborations with nature! Your patient presence certainly illuminates so much more than meets most eyes. I so appreciate your way!
Thank you so much, Kimberly! I'm so happy to hear how my little moments connect with you 💕
These beautiful words make me long for a clothesline in my suburban yard.
🤣 Thanks so much, Laura, it's just absolutely silly how many fun nature moments have happened at the laundry line 🤣
Me too. I now live in a flat 😁
Beautiful to read. Nature, nature and more nature is some of the best advice there is❤️

And please feed the birds. This link is from 2020 however, starvation is still happening.
