Maple trees are amazing. Their leaves, smell, helicopter seed pods, and of course syrup are all so magical.

Ah that was so beautiful Sydney. Made me homesick for America and particularly Massachusetts where my wife's family mapled almost every year. Bless you.

My goodness!! I had no idea!!! Extraordinary!!! I understand the concept of sap being drawn upwards in a tree, but that just blows my mind!! Thank you so much for sharing this extraordinary time with us. Such beautiful trees. Such an amazing process. Who on earth thought to do such a thing. I guess people who saw a wounded tree and the extraordinary flow of sap that would have resulted. I love that you check that each tree has fully healed before tapping them again. So cool. Thank you.

Thanks so much, Beth, I know, isn't it so fun?! I bet you're exactly right, too, that native people saw the trees licking the broken branches and put it all together. So fun to contemplate, and such an interesting connection through the generations!

That’s true, Rob! It’s hard to beat the flavor of what you collect with your own hands.

I felt I was right there w/ your maples… smelling the sweet, pungent smells and tongue sensations, before and after heat. Yummm… thanks.

Great learning experience about these amazing trees. I'm impressed you make your own maple syrup, and with such care for the trees.

Lovely story. We don't have too many maples here but I love watching the Red maple bloom. I also read that you could make syrup from other trees too but like you said it wouldn't be as sweet and would have a different flavor. Thanks for sharing!
