I love the chickadee on ice and your charming story! I kept thinking about the scene from "A Christmas Story" where the kid gets his tongue stuck to the metal pole. I'm glad the chickadee wasn't frozen in place 🤣
Thank you! 🤣 That's hilarious, and now I have that little picture in my head - the chickadee's eyes getting big as he realizes what just happened 🤣 Thankfully, no chickadees were harmed, etc, etc...
These are beautiful. Thank you for sharing a glimpse of the secret life of chickadees. It reminds me of this past summer when my kids & I spied a squirrel eating a mushroom on our back fence post! We were overjoyed 😍✨
Thank you! A mushroom? That is so cool! There's something really special about getting a secret peek into the life of a wild creature doing something unexpected :) We once looked out the window to see a chipmunk slurp up a worm like a noodle and almost died laughing
The vivid details of the chickadees perching on icicles, the sparkle in their eyes, and the playfulness in their interactions paint a heartwarming picture. The way you weave the story, from the astonished gasps and giggle-whispers to hearts overflowing with affection, captures the essence of that golden winter morning. Thank you for sharing this evocative journey captured in the snapshots of life.
I love the international flavour of Substack. I’m in Australia (summertime down here) and you were recommended by Rebecca Holden from England. As an Aussie, I have no idea how tiny little birds exist in such extreme climates!! They truly are extraordinary. I adore your photos. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes. 🤗🤗😘
That is so cool, welcome! I enjoy the international connection so much, too :) Yes, I was shocked at first to see that the little chickadees were here through these very cold winters - and fascinated by those little bare feet - how could they not freeze?! But, of course, they're designed for the cold with a specialized circulatory system, so they're perfectly comfortable, and we can just enjoy all their cuteness :) So glad to connect with you! How's your summer going?
Surprisingly cold and rainy. A great way to keep the bushfires at bay. 😃 The sound of lawnmowers fills the air on fine days. Typical Aussie sounds, along with the warbling magpies, hungry baby crows and squawking cockatoos. There’s a lot to love. ❤️
Sounds enchanting, and yay for anything that keeps the wildfires down. I know they’re a valuable part of the natural cycle, but that cycle is sadly out of whack lately, and the losses are really sad 😢

We call the same species of bird tits in the UK and there might be one of two!! 😊
Absolutely marvelous, miraculous, magical!
