Seasons arrive on the wind. One evening, you breathe the fading warmth of drowsy petal velvet. The next morning, your lungs are filled with crisp apple bite. The coming days will be a boundary layer, swirling and mixing, crashing and tumbling, late summer dissolving into early fall, indistinguishable horizons slowly clarifying into sharp relief.
I wake up to autumn. It’s summer by lunch time. Fall drifts in with the twilight, and if I happen to miss it, it simply curls itself up around the house while I’m sleeping. :) It has begun!
We talk about seasons monolithically. Oh, I can’t wait for summer to get here. Oh, fall is right around the corner. Spring has sprung. But I’m reminded more than ever this year that the seasons come to each of our natural neighbors quite individually, each according to their own unique times and stages and circumstances.
Most of the farm is still summery, late-summery, fluffy clouds of aster and goldenrod still hosting the warm hum of bumblebees and butterflies. Warm sunshine on shoulders, still air beneath dappled branches, blue skies fading into hazy summer shores.
But for all the rustle of late summer leaves in late summer breezes, hints of fall are beginning to emerge.
Fall arrives first for the tender...
…and the vulnerable…
Tiny seedlings are exquisitely sensitive to the first chilly whisper of a cooling night. Without a protective fortress of arching branches, sturdy trunks, and deep roots, these little guys need to move fast and winterize early!
Fall begins along the edges, one single leaf, one single branch, that’s just a little stressed, a little stretched, a little far out on the limb, having just a little harder time than all the rest.
Fall is coming for everyone, eventually. But it’s coming for some, first. It’s beautiful. It’s poignant. It’s rich with color…
…and meaning. Hard seasons are harder on those who were having a hard time to begin with. And that’s a good thing to remember, no matter what season we’re in! 💕

Every year, i always think for desribing fall and winter, whether i should personify them or not. But the more i try not to personify, the more i get inclined to do so. Fall in Iran, comes more like a guest that stops by, but you feel their presence for a longer time.
I love fall only for its colorfulness (and also because of my birthday. Based on the Persian calendar, my birthday's in fall, but based on Gregorian calendar, my birthday's in winter).
I really enjoyed this photo essay, Sydney. Those seedling photos are inspiring and we can see the potential for something great in their small frames. I've been waiting for Autumn the past few weeks as it is my favourite season for hiking and simply being in Nature.
