Hi, I’m Sydney, and I’m so glad you’re here!
Nature Moments is a place to explore connecting with nature, a place to take a moment to appreciate all the wonders unfolding in the world all around us all the time.
I am often amazed by nature, and I enjoy photographing it, writing about it, and sharing it with anyone I can, because being amazed by nature is just SO DARN GOOD for all of us!
I’m not a nature expert. I’m a nature enthusiast! And I have a simple practice, which I recommend to everyone:
Be Curious.
Be Amazed.
Do It Again!
It’s a life-long practice that you can carry with you wherever you go and never exhaust its growth potential. No matter how well you get to know the world around you, if you approach it with a little curiosity, you’ll find yourself being amazed again and again!
Amazement is life-changing. Not life-changing in that way that’s on blast on every promotable surface in our noisy world. Life-changing in a way that’s quiet and encompassing and lasting. Just Be Amazed
I first picked up a camera as way to capture things that amazed me, so that I could return to them later, and so that I could share them with others. My camera has helped me both to notice and to share in new ways.
Here on Nature Moments, I share weekly nature photography + stories to inspire you to develop a consistent practice of connecting with nature, by becoming an ever-greater-noticer, and cultivating that feeling of amazement that will ingrain nature connection in your heart!
If you think nature is boring, and you’ve already seen all the birds and the butterflies and the beaches *yawn*, then Nature Moments will be a snooze-fest for you.
But, if you’ve ever gazed deeply into the center of a flower, or been stopped in your tracks by some beautiful play of light, or been mesmerized by the patterns of raindrops in a puddle, then you’re in good company!

It’s human nature to take one quick look and be fairly certain we’ve got it all figured out. But if we just look again. Look closer. Look from another angle. We may find ourselves noticing. Contemplating. Perhaps arriving at a new level of understanding. Unlock the Secrets of the Universe
But sometimes, connection is softer, maybe a bit obscure, actually stronger for being intangible. Sometimes, we can get to know our world better by approaching a moment with open curiosity and reducing it to light. Reduced to Light

We are also a family-of-five, living a homestead life in Downeast Maine. As a result, we do a lot of things by hand!
We harvest our own wood, we make our own soap, along with some assorted small hand-crafts ~ all inspired by the benefits of simple, natural materials, and the beauty of our natural surroundings!
